Routine Dental Exams in South Austin

We always recommend that patients try to schedule routine dental exams at least twice per year to help keep their teeth and gums in tip-top shape. Early intervention is the key to preventing dental issues from developing into much larger problems that are much more costly, invasive, and time-consuming to treat. Ready to schedule your next visit? We’re ready to see you! Contact our office today.
What do dentists check for during routine exams?
Dental exams involve more than just checking teeth for cavities. Your dentist is examining your smile for signs of many different issues, including:
Tooth decay or developing tooth decay
- Dental trauma, such as chips or cracks in teeth
- Gum disease or developing gum disease
- Unusual changes in teeth or gum appearance
- Checking dental restorations and/or dental sealants
- Oral cancer
How long do dental exams take?
A routine dental visit may take anywhere from thirty minutes to one hour, depending on a few different factors. If you are receiving a cleaning as well as an exam, or any other additional treatments, that will extend the length of your visit. Patients are also welcome to bring up any questions that they may have, and we will take our time to address these concerns. These timeframes are set aside for you specifically, so feel free to ask about any additional services or treatment options that pique your interest during your appointment!
Are dental exams affordable?
At Westgate Family Dental, we want to do everything we can to keep our services affordable for our valued patients. Many dental insurance plans offer coverage for dental exams, and we’d be happy to help you maximize your benefits as much as possible. Our office also provides a new patient special that includes an exam, X-rays, and oral cancer screening, so if you are new to our practice and uninsured, please get in touch with our team for details!
